The up and downvote buttons feel pretty unresponsive. I think I had to double click to get some to work. I don't know if the problem is on my end or yours.

It looked like we were getting DOSd there for a bit, so it should be a lot more responsive now. I'll see what I can do to make it a bit crisper, though.

Its called the "reddit effect". :)

I posted a website there once and I had to change hosts because the traffic exceeded my monthly limit in about an hour.

I think I figured out an issue that added to the problem caused by the unintentional DDOS attack.

When you click the upvote button a second time it retracts your vote. Likewise with the down vote. This is a clean way of allowing users to retract their vote, but ultimately might lead to more problems than its worth during times of heavy traffic.

I think it might be a good idea to only allow the user to change an upvote to a downvote and vise versa. This way the function of the "plus" button never changes. As it stands the function of the plus button changes based on a context that can not be observed by the user. I may not remember if I have already upvoted a guide and the interface does not tell my if mine is one of the many votes already counted.

Anyway, this is the way reddit does it. You can't ever retract a vote. You can only change from up to down or down to up.

Hope this helps.

We can handle Reddit. Whatever happened for those 30mins was about the same traffic we get in a day requesting the same page over and over. We figured out what happened, just need to find out why :P
